Podcaps
about.
Podcaps is a mobile application designed for those curious about art and design, who wish to dive deeper into artists’ worlds through the podcast format.
Following our exploration with TOKIO Radio (an existing French podcast accessible on Spotify and Apple Music) the solution evolved into a platform that now hosts other independent and immersive cultural podcasts as well : Podcaps.
challenge.
TOKIO Radio, while appreciated as a podcast for its sincerity and cultural depth, faced several key issues:
Lack of immersion: Listeners often struggled to get deeply engaged or to follow the structure of the episodes.
Poor discoverability: New listeners found the podcast’s proposition unclear, with a lack of supporting information and immersive content.
Unclear positioning: Many cultural podcast listeners didn’t see added value in switching to a dedicated application.
Platform fatigue: Users were already satisfied with mainstream platforms (Spotify,, Apple Music and Deezer) and hesitant about adopting a new one.
Need for narrative coherence: Feedback pointed to unclear editorial direction and insufficient depth in some episodes.
These insights led to a core problem statement:
“How might we improve the quality of TOKIO Radio’s content and listening experience to attract and retain listeners through a centralized platform?”
results.
The team proposed and prototyped Podcaps, an immersive digital platform designed to transform the TOKIO Radio experience through:
Editorial and UX Improvements
• A 30-minute episode format with a clear editorial promise, recurring segments, and immersive sound design.
• A fictional intro featuring voices of artists (e.g., Raymond Depardon) to create emotional connection from the start.
Application Features
• Focus mode for distraction-free listening.
• Interactive capsules mixing sound, visuals, and text for a richer experience.
• Personalized listening journey: user-driven exploration by themes or artists.
• Integration of rituals and curated collections to deepen engagement.
User Testing Highlights
• Conducted with 5 testers and 6 scenarios.
• Scores improved from 65/100 to 85/100 on the SUS scale after iterations.
• Key improvements included better feature visibility and easier navigation.
Outlook & Strategy
• Short-term goals: boost visibility (via teasers), finalize platform identity, expand podcast offerings.
• Mid-term goals: secure sponsors by 2026 and become a reference platform for immersive, independent cultural podcasts by 2027.
